Real Estate Appraiser Information for the State of Idaho

Real estate appraisers are required to be licensed, per Title XI of the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act (FIRREA) of 1989.    This act required that each of the states establish an agency for the licensure, certification, and regulation of appraisers.

In Idaho, the State of Idaho Bureau Of Occupational Licenses, Idaho Real Estate Appraiser Board is in charge of this oversight.

There are four classifications of real estate appraiser in the State of Idaho.  These classifications are:

  1. Registered Trainee Real Estate Appraiser
  2. State Licensed Residential Real Estate Appraiser
  3. State Certified Residential Real Estate Appraiser
  4. State Certified General Real Estate Appraiser

Those new to a career in real estate appraisals must begin as a Registered Trainee Real Estate Appraiser.  There is no experience required.  However, it is necessary to complete the state required coursework to become a Registered Trainee Real Estate Appraiser.  The trainee must then work under a supervisor for a specified number of hours in order to be eligible to become a licensed or certified appraiser.
