Real Estate Appraiser Information for the State of Florida

Real estate appraisers are required to be licensed, per Title XI of the Financial Institutions Reform, Recovery, and Enforcement Act (FIRREA) of 1989.    This act required that each of the states establish an agency for the licensure, certification, and regulation of appraisers.

In Florida, the Florida Real Estate Appraisal Board (FREAB) is in charge of this oversight.

There are three classifications of real estate appraiser in the State of Florida.  These classifications are:

  1. Registered Trainee Appraiser
  2. Certified Residential Appraiser
  3. Certified General Appraiser

Those new to a career in real estate appraisals must begin as a Registered Trainee Appraiser.  There is no experience required.  However, it is necessary to complete the state required coursework to become aRegistered Trainee Appraiser.  The trainee must then work under a supervisor for a specified number of hours in order to be eligible to become a licensed or certified appraiser.
